Ross Giardina's path in cinematography began on a long photographic journey to Europe. Shortly after he was accepted into the prestigious Czech Republic film School in Prague where he revelled in shooting everything and anything. Practising his craft in Europe, with the Arri Sr2 never leaving his side.
After returning to Australia, Ross was accepted into The Australian Film, Television and Radio School and solidified his training with a Masters in Cinematography.
Since then Ross's creative nuance and artistic approach has seen him working with a variety of directors and actors, on projects which have allowed him to film in locations spanning Australia, Los Angeles, New York, Cambodia, Russia, India, New Zealand and Europe to name a few.
He has won and been nominated for many awards, including a nomination for Best Cinematography at the International Cinematographers' festival, CAMERIMAGE Poland, 2010.
In 2013, Ross was honoured in receiving A Gold and Silver at the Australian Cinematographer Awards in Drama and Commercials. Most notably for his work on Godel Incomplete, starring Elizabeth Debicki (Great Gatsby) and Raker starring Sarah Snook (Predestination) and Alex Russel (Unbroken, Cut Snake). And playing at MIFF 2014 the film Mother starring Maya Stange (Galore).
In November/December 2014 Ross was honoured to be 2 unit Cinematographer for Don McAlpine (Romeo&Juliet, Moulin Rouge) on the Kate Winslet film The Dressmaker. Ross worked with director PJ Hogan (Muriels Wedding,Peter Pan) on shooting all the flashback sequences and opening sequence for the highly anticipated film released in 2015.
More Recently in 2015 Ross was awarded the highest honour in cinematography by being Accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Association giving him the honour of using the letters ACS after his name along with this he won a record 6X Gold ACS awards for his work in the categories International Commercials, Drama and Music Videos.
Ross again was nominated at Camerimage Poland in the Music Video Section for Flumes 'Some Minds.' the festival will take place in November 2015
Ross' energy and enthusiasm is fuelled by the collaborative process and a pursuit of artistic and visual excellence, heightening and supporting story over both commercials and drama platforms.
